Through the generous support of this important mission by sponsors and local families, the foundation’s funding has distributed $83,000 in scholarships and begun hosting programs to develop community commitment in which students volunteer to help the foundation.  Please consider making an online donation now!


Dedicated to continuing the values Jim Bonfield lived as dean, coach and teacher at Downers Grove South High School for 32 years, is well as a father of a son who graduated from Downers Grove North High School, the foundation offers a memorial scholarship eligible to all students

Aaron Silver
(North)

 

A leader from Downers Grove North High School, Aaron has been involved in a variety of activities including National Honor Society, Cross Country, and Track and Field.  He has  been recognized as a  leader through the J. Kyle Braid Foundation, Leadership Core, as well as in the Downers Grove community by coaching 7th and 8th grade basketball and being involved in Character Counts. Aaron’s integrity, character, and genuine interest in others makes him a role model for those around him.  He is attending the University of Illinois.

Sean Enright
(South)
Sports is everything to Sean.  He has been a member of the Downers Grove South High School Football, Baseball, and Basketball teams, as well as a member of Athletes Committed to Excellence. Sean has given of himself by volunteering with Downers Grove Youth Baseball, and at a local soup kitchen. His parents, coaches, and teachers have been his true inspiration.  With their encouragement, Sean is attending the University of Iowa, and is hoping to play football.
Ryan Cashman
(South)
Infectious enthusiasm describes Ryan.  His committed endeavors include a variety of activities at Downers Grove South High School, such as: Forensics, Choir, and Mask and Gavel.  Ryan has also taken an interest in the Downers Grove community by becoming involved in volunteering for Relay for Life, various fundraisers for the Divine Savior Parish Youth Group, and the Bonfield Express 5K Run.  Ryan is continuing his busy schedule at Illinois State University.
Madison Ruff
(North)
Madison is a hardworking competitor, as well as an excellent, well-rounded student.  She has been involved in many activities at Downers Grove North High School, such as; soccer, basketball, and volleyball.  Madison’s volunteering includes;  Direct Action Club, Downers Grove Park District, St. Joseph’s Church Youth Ministry, Toys For Tots, Downers Grove Humane Society, and Downers Grove Wolfpack Basketball.  Her interest in becoming a future educator and coach, has indspired her to join the Future Educators of America.  Madison is now attending Illinois State University.
Kyle Black
(North)
Kyle faces problems head on.  He always tries to look for the positive in every situation. After being involved in cross country and tennis at Downers Grove North High School, Kyle also sought out service organizations, such as; Direct Action and the Giving Tree at school.  He has given of himself throughout the community volunteering his time with; Sunday School as a teaching assistant, ushering at church, garage sales and car wash fundraisers, Chicagoland Animal Rescue, and coaching park district basketball.  Kyle is attending Butler University in Indianapolis.
Erin Walgamuth
(North)
Erin is a person who sees the bright side of things.  She observes failure and struggle, and makes it into a new learning experience.  Erin has held many honors in her high school career at Downers Grove North.  She has excelled in sports, such as; cross country and track, and has received commendation by being named to the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and the All Academic Team.  Erin has volunteered for Church Mission Trips and Youth Group Activities, as well as Relay For Life.  This Fall, Erin began attending Indiana University, and made the Women’s Cross Country Team as a walk-on.
Jessica Bozek
(South)
Jessica believes in turning her thoughts into actions, so that she can make a difference.  At Downers Grove South High School, she has done this by showing her leadership ability in activities such as; J. Kyle Braid Leadership, Freshman Orientation Leader, Drug Awareness Leader, D.A.R.E. Student Director, Snowball Leadership, and Jr. High Mentor.  Her varied interests involved her in Wind Ensemble, playing the French-horn, Art Club, and church activities such as; Sunday School Teacher, Youth Deacon, Mission Trip Participant, Community Service Participant, Reach Out Coordinator, Brass Choir Member, and Children’s Choir Director.  Jessica is now attending Illinois Wesleyan University.
Todd Duke
(North)
Accepting challenges in his life and approaching situations positively is a description of Todd Duke.  He has overcome difficulties in his life and has worked hard to achieve his goals at Downers Grove North High School.  Todd has shown his abilities by being successful in Cross Country, Track and Field, National Honor Society, Link Leader, and as a Physical Education Leader.  WithTodd’s positive attitude, he is looking forward to pursuing a career in vocational rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin Stout.
Robert Holly
(North)

Maturity, commitment to community, intelligence, character, and ethics set Robert Holly apart from others at Downers Grove North High School.  He has been a Day Break Volunteer, a Sharing Connection Volunteer, a Spanish Tutor, and a Link Leader mentoring freshmen students.  Robert has excelled as a member of the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honors Society, and he is also an Illinois State Scholar.  Robert has received accolades for his art work.  He has been honored to be asked to design the Illinois Art Week Button, the Mosaic Concert CD skin and label, and the All American Play Advertisement.  Robert is furthering his education at the University of Illinois.

John Sterr
(North)
He makes a commitment and finishes what needs to be done.  That is John Sterr.  He has shown his perseverance by being a four year team member in Cross Country and Wrestling at Downers Grove North High School.  John’s interests vary.  He has many extracurricular activities which include;  Architecture Club, Ski Club, Government Club, Leadership Core, Youth Ministry, Boy Scouts of America, Culver Academy Summer Camps, Athletes Committed to Excellence, and National Honor Society.  John has also been honored with the IHSA Scholastic Achievement Award, and the West Suburban Conference Academic Achievement Award.  He is furthering his education at the University of Illinois.
